The Committee For The Defence Of Human Rights (CDHR) has condemned the invasion of the headquarters of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja by state-backed security operatives.
In a statement issued to journalists by the Kaduna State Chairman of CDHR Comrade Ali Attahiru, said “the raid by security personnel Nigeria’s undermines workers’ rights to organise, bargain collectively and take industrial action.
The statement read in Part; “We strongly condemn the attack on the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) secretariat yesterday, August 8, 2024. This brazen act of violence is unacceptable and an affront to the democratic rights of Nigerian workers”
“The NLC is a symbol of workers’ resistance and a beacon of hope for the Nigerian people. Attacking its secretariat is an attempt to silence the voices of the marginalized and undermine the struggle for better working conditions, fair wages, and social justice”
“We stand in solidarity with the NLC, its leadership, and the entire Nigerian labour movement. We demand that the perpetrators be brought to justice and that measures be taken to ensure the safety and security of the NLC secretariat and its members”
“This attack will not deter us from continuing to fight for the rights and dignity of Nigerian workers. We will continue to stand together and resist any attempts to suppress our voices and undermine our collective strength” the statement concluded.
