FG’s Committe on Open Defecation Validates 7 Kano LGs

The Federal Government Committe on Open defecation under the federal Ministry of Water Resources has certified 7 local governments from Kano State free from open defecation.

The local governments certified include: Kiru, Shanono, Bagwai, Dawakin Tofa, Ungogo, Gaya and Gabasawa.

This was made known when the Committee members presented the validation report to the state ministry for local government and Chieftaincy affairs at its headquarters in Audu Balo Secretariat.

The team leader, Mr. Peter Ojunwa said the validated local governments are part of thirteen local governments sensitized on the ills of open defecation assuring that the remaining six would be validated soon.

The representative of UNICEF in the team, Mr. Ata Samuel commended the committement of Kano State Government in fighting open defecation in view of its disastrous consequences on lives of people and environmental well-being.

Responding, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad Kabara, represented by the director, Water, Environment, Sanitation and Hygiene (WESH) department, Alhaji Dauda Garba appreciated the committee for its concern to Kano.

Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad Kabara said Kano State is not unrelenting in fighting open defecation trough provision of mobile toilets in market, other public places; and massive enlightenment campaign on the menace.

He assured the support and cooperation of Kano State Government for the total eradication of open defecation in the entire state.
