Pensioners in Kaduna State are expressing frustration and disappointment over the delayed payment of their gratuities and death benefits. Despite the governor’s promise to release funds, it’s been over a month since the verification exercise, and many pensioners have yet to receive their benefits.
According to reports, Governor Uba Sani had ordered the release of N3.8 billion for the payment of gratuities, death benefits, and accrued rights in the Contributory Pension Scheme ¹. Additionally, the state government had approved N2.321 billion for pension entitlements, gratuities, and death benefits, benefiting 661 retirees and families across state and local governments ².
However, pensioners are now crying out, claiming they’ve been misled. “They lied to us,” they say, expressing their disappointment in the governor and the Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Pension Bureau. The pensioners were promised prompt payment after verification, but the delay has caused significant hardship ¹.
The Kaduna State government has been making efforts to address pension liabilities, having paid out N6.678 billion in 2025 and a total of N13.5 billion in the last two years. Despite this, the delay in payment has sparked frustration among pensioners ³.
