World Health Organization WHO has called for High alert against Mpox which is a viral disease capable of causing long term complications and death if not properly managed.
The WHO Public Health Officer in Kaduna Dr. Furaira Zakari made the call at a media engagement on the Mpox vaccination integrated campaign in Kaduna.
She described the disease as highly contagious and called on the people to report any noticeable symptoms immediately to avoid serious implications.
Dr. Furaira emphasized that the  campaign is capital intensive, and the largest that the country has ever had.
“We are going to immunize over 106 million children Nationwide while we are targeting 4.2 million children in the community. So the call to action related to this one was the success of this campaign depends on collective effort from household, caregivers, community leaders, and the media yourself.”
Earlier the Director Disease Control and Immunization Mallam Hamza Ikara announced the commencement of the state integrated measles and Rubella campaign under the phase One National roll out of the exercise.
“We are going to start our own from the 18th of october to 27 october for the period of 10 days this exercise is an integrated part which involves all the routine immunization vaccine or child preventable diseases that we have been doing across the state and also the measles rubella vaccines”
Mallam Hamza Ikara said the exercise was to protect citizens from emerging and vaccine-preventable diseases and will be implemented across all the 23 local government areas of the state.
