The Accountant General of Kaduna State, Alhaji Bashir Suleiman Zuntu, has chaired a sensitisation meeting with Directors of Personnel Management (DPMs) and Treasurers from the 23 Local Government Councils of the state, as part of preparations for the implementation of the Nigeria Tax Act 2026.
The meeting, which held on Monday, January 19, 2026, was aimed at familiarising key Local Government officials with the provisions, objectives and operational framework of the new Tax Act. A consultant engaged for the exercise made detailed presentations to guide participants on effective implementation at the grassroots level.

Speaking at the meeting, Alhaji Zuntu emphasised the importance of full understanding and strict compliance with the Nigeria Tax Act 2026, noting that the success of the policy largely depends on the commitment and cooperation of Local Government administrators.
He explained that the Act is designed to strengthen revenue administration, block leakages and promote transparency and accountability in public finance management across all tiers of government.

Representing the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Hon. Sadiq Mamman Lagos, was the Director of Finance and Accounts of the Ministry, Dr. Haruna Sale Kargi. In his remarks, Dr. Kargi stressed that the state government remains committed to building the capacity of Local Government officials to ensure seamless implementation of fiscal reforms.
According to him, the Nigeria Tax Act 2026 will not only improve internally generated revenue but also enhance fiscal sustainability and service delivery at the Local Government level if properly implemented.
The meeting was held at the Senator Uba Sani Conference Hall, Ministry of Local Government Affairs, Kaduna State, and was attended by top accounting and administrative officers from all the 23 Local Government Councils.
Participants commended the state government for the initiative and called for continuous engagement and training to ensure that the objectives of the Tax Act are fully realised.
