The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State has expressed grave concern over the recent security incident in Kurmin Wali community of Kajuru Local Government Area, accusing the state government and security officials of initially denying the incident despite reports from affected residents.
In a press statement issued on Thursday and signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Maria Dogo, the PDP described the government’s response as embarrassing and dangerous, alleging that authorities preferred denial and propaganda over prompt action to protect lives.
The party recalled that since 2015 it has deliberately avoided politicising security matters, choosing instead to exercise restraint and engage constructively whenever lives are at stake. According to the PDP, this sense of responsibility has been exploited by a government that allegedly resorts to denial rather than honesty in addressing insecurity.
The PDP lamented the worsening security situation in Kajuru, Kauru, Kachia, parts of Lere and other communities in Southern Kaduna, while government appointees and what it described as sponsored social media operatives continue to praise the administration for tackling insecurity.
It noted that the reported incident in Kajuru on Sunday was hastily denied by authorities, only for it to be later confirmed, a pattern the party said exposes a government more interested in managing narratives than safeguarding citizens.
“Denial does not stop bandits. Propaganda does not rescue abducted citizens,” the statement said, warning that playing politics with insecurity only endangers lives further.
The PDP declared its solidarity with the people of Kajuru and Southern Kaduna, and called on the Kaduna State Government to abandon what it termed deceit, rein in reckless appointees, and treat security as a sacred responsibility rather than a public relations exercise.
