The Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE), Kaduna State Chapter, has organized a National Structural Engineering Training aimed at equipping students and members with modern building innovations and advanced construction techniques for the North-West zone.
The training, which brought together graduate and undergraduate students, young professionals, and practicing civil and structural engineers, focused on enhancing professional competence and promoting safe, resilient structures across the region

Speaking at the event, the National Chairman of NICE, Dr. Tokunbo Ajanaku , said the initiative was designed to expose members to new building technologies and innovative engineering practices that are shaping the construction industry.
According to him, continuous professional development remains critical in strengthening the capacity of engineers and ensuring that structures meet global standards.
The President of the institution, who was represented by Engr. Usman Mohammed Falalu, the National Vice Chairman of NICE, commended the National Chairman for his proactive leadership and commitment to introducing reforms that will uplift the profession.
He noted that the training would boost the morale of graduating and undergraduate students by equipping them with practical skills and contemporary knowledge in structural engineering.
“The National Chairman is coming with innovations that will strengthen the institution and reposition it for greater impact,” he said.
He also appreciated the efforts of the Kaduna State Branch Chairman, Engr. Asma’u Hamdana, for successfully organizing the training programme.
In her remarks, Engr. Asma’u Hamdana stated that the training was specifically tailored to equip members and students with modern structural engineering innovations.
She emphasized that the focus of the institution remains on professionalism and quality.
“For now, there are no shortcuts — only solid engineering,” she said.
She explained that the programme was targeted at graduate engineers, young professionals, and practicing civil and structural engineers, with the aim of raising standards and promoting the construction of safe and resilient structures.
Also speaking, Engr. Mansur Hamma Adama, one of the resource persons at the training, said the programme would significantly enhance participants’ understanding of new building technologies.
Engr. Mansur, a lecturer at the Kaduna Polytechnic, commended the Kaduna branch of NICE for organizing what he described as a timely and impactful training.
Participants expressed optimism that the knowledge gained would contribute to improved engineering practices and sustainable infrastructure development in the North-West region and beyond.
