KNSG Emphasizes Need For Training Of Extension Workers

The need for training and retraining of extension workers to build their capacities on data collection and record keeping at grassroot has again been stressed.

This is disclosed in a communique issued at the end of a two-day workshop organized by the Kano state ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs on farm mapping,data collection and record keeping for enhanced crops production for food security in Kano and Nigeria as a whole.

The two-day workshop which was carefully designed for heads of Agriculture and natural resources together with their sectional heads took place in kaduna.

Presenting the communique,the drafting committee Chairman who doubles head of Agriculture department in Minjibir Local Government, Ibrahim Muhammad highlighted some of their recommendations that include:

-Strategic training for extension workers to build their capacities especially at the grassroots.

-mapping tools that can help their operations.

-Adequate coordination of farmers Association and inclusive training.

-Establishment of a Soil Test Laboratory at least one for each of the three senatorial zones.

The communique further recommend that the ministry for Local Government should provide a standard and uniform data based for information gathering and dessimination across the farming communities.

Reacting to the workshop shortly after presenting the communique,the Director Training of the ministry for Local Government, Jamaludin Muhammad commended Kano state governments for it’s unrelenting efforts towards ensuring that Staff members of the ministry and the state by extension were effectively trained and retrained for optimum performance.

Jamaludin Muhammad equally tasked participants to ensure that all the lessons learnt were cascaded to grassroots for the overall interest of the state.

He also appreciated Our family Farm for their wonderful inputs through out the season.
