…., Hails Governor Umar Namadi For Free Female University Education  In Jigawa

 Sule Lamido University (SLU), located in Kafin Hausa, Jigawa State, was established as a state-owned university to expand higher education opportunities in the region.

The university has a brief but important history that includes its initial establishment, its official licensing, and its eventual renaming. 

The  3rd Vice-Chancellor of Sule Lamido University (SLU), Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Yakasai, has presided over several notable achievements since taking office in December 2023.

Professor Ibrahim Yakasai has transformed the university by improving accreditation, enhancing staff capacity and expanding infrastructure and implementing innovative programs that improve student holistic development, making institutions more competitive and effective

The university began its first academic session in September 2014, with the pioneer teaching and non-teaching staff already recruited.

The  NUC accreditation exercises under Professor Yakasai took place in late 2023 and late 2024, with the results being publicly announced in 2024 and 2025.  

Since its founding, SLU has expanded its academic programs, growing from a handful of initial programs in Science, Education, and Humanities to a comprehensive institution with multiple faculties.

the university continues to mature, its focus has been on achieving academic excellence and securing full accreditation for its programs, which has been achieved for numerous departments. 

In an exclusive interview with journalists, the head of media and publicity of the university  Malam Sadiq Lawal , said Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Yakasai has led Sule Lamido University (SLU) to achieve full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for over a dozen of its programs.

According to him These included programs in the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Humanities, and Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences”

Malam Sadiq has stated that these accreditation successes reflect the university’s commitment to achieving its mission and vision by ensuring quality education. 

He said Under Professor Yakasai’s leadership, several programs at Sule Lamido University received full accreditation from the NUC.

“ Under Prof. Yakasai tenure with the assistance of  The state government the university has achieved alot. Let start with the infrastructural development of The university. The new proposed faculty of medicine, this faculty is the next faculty that this university is proposing to mount  but already multi billion naira contract was given for the construction of the building and it’s been reached appreciatable stage.

“ The work started during Prof Ibrahim Yakasai Tenure with assistance of the state government because His excellency Governor Namadi is very concerned with the educational development in Jigawa state that’s why all the time he gives the university all the necessary support in other to  achieve all the desired goals of the university”

“ In this university there are projects that have been abandoned  which was awarded right from the inception of the university which the contractor left site but within these two year of Prof. Yakasai the projects has been restructured.  For example, there’s principal officer’s quarters, sabertical lodge and 380 capacity lodge which now ungoing “

“ The main reason for establishing this university is to give room for the jigawa state indegine to pursue education. Every female indegine in Jigawa states that studies in this university is studying free of charge and the male students they’re paying 25 percent of the school fees and the state government pays 75 percent of the money that’s why you can see the students are trooping to see they used this opportunity if the scholarship”

“From inception of this university to date no any female child in jigawa state that studying in this university that pays a single kobo because they’re enjoying 100 percent scholarship even the accommodation is free of charge because this is the policy of jigawa state government and this is what Governor Malam Umar Namadi is doing and he’ll continue doing it.”

“In jigawa state today we have vast number of female graduates, you hardly see a home  a family in jigawa state without  one,  two or more   femal graduate because of this gesture”

“Our children are getting quality education in this university and the staff of the university are doing their best towards the development of university and the students” he added.

Our reporter gathered that During his tenure as Vice-Chancellor of Sule Lamido University, Key achievements under Professor Yakasai include:

Accreditation of 13 programs (2023): Between October and November 2023, the National Universities Commission (NUC) granted full accreditation to 13 foundation programs. 

Accreditation of additional programs (2024): In a subsequent exercise held in late 2024, the NUC granted full accreditation to several other programs across different faculties, including:Other achievements:

1. Completion of the construction and furnishing of FANS 2 Twin Theater. 

2. Completion of the construction and furnishing of the University Main Library

3. Construction of three number 480 capacity students hostel

4. Construction of Principal Officers Quarters. 

5. Construction of the University Sabbatical Lodge

6. Changing the name of School of Preliminary Studies (SPS) to School of Preliminary Studies and Continuing Education (SPACE). 

7. Introduction of pre-degree programme in the SPACE. 

8. Introduction of part-time degree programme in the SPACE.
