KADUNA – A former Head of Department of Mass Communication at Kaduna Polytechnic, Dr Bashir Hadi Ashara, has died. He passed away on Thursday night, leaving behind a legacy of service to both academia and journalism.
The funeral prayer is scheduled to take place later today at the Danfodio Mosque in Kaduna.
Dr Ashara was a seasoned journalist who worked with the New Nigerian Newspapers and the now-defunct Nation House, where he contributed to The Sentinel magazine and Nasiha newspaper. Colleagues remember him as a humble soul and a pillar of the media community.
In a Facebook post announcing his death, a close associate described a small regret: Dr Ashara had sent a warm greeting message on Wednesday afternoon, but the recipient was busy moderating a workshop organised by the National Association of Women Journalists in Zaria and could not reply. The post served as a poignant reminder of life’s fragility.
Dr Ashara shaped countless young minds during his tenure as head of the Mass Communication department at Kaduna Polytechnic. Friends and former students have taken to social media to mourn a man described as both an academic icon and a gentleman.
May Allah forgive his shortcomings, reward his devoted service to education, and grant him Aljannah Firdaus. Amin.
