The leadership and members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Yobe State have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the move was informed by their belief in the party’s vision and leadership.

The defectors were received at the APC State Secretariat in Damaturu by party officials led by the state Deputy Chairman, who represented the APC leadership in the state.

Leader of the defecting group, Prof. Muhammad Ibrahim Jawa, who is also the National Leader of the Arewa Strategic Implementation Group, described the defection as a coordinated political movement with an extensive grassroots network across the state.

According to him, the structure comprises a state coordinator, three zonal coordinators, 17 local government coordinators and 188 ward coordinators, with each ward supported by at least 57 grassroots mobilisers.

Prof. Jawa said the decision followed consultations and assessments by members of the group, adding that they believed the APC’s Renewed Hope Agenda offered the best opportunity for national unity, stability and development.

He also said the opposition had yet to build the level of organisation required to provide a viable alternative to the ruling party.

Receiving the defectors, the APC leadership in Yobe welcomed them into the party and assured them of equal opportunities and full integration.

The party expressed confidence that the new members would strengthen its grassroots support base and contribute to its activities ahead of future elections.
